Milan, June 17 2021 – The event season of the Monumental Cemetery reopens. On Sunday 20 June at 10am the local police band will perform in concert among the tree-lined avenues of the art treasure chest designed by architect Carlo Maciachini.

The program of the "Note di memoria" event opens with the march #tuttinsieme, arranged by Lorenzo Pusceddu: a fantasy of famous songs from the Italian opera repertoire which is part of the project "Music starts again safely" launched in 2020 and supported by the Ministry of Culture to support gangs during the Covid-19 emergency.

The medley recalls famous arias from operas that have made Italy famous throughout the world, composed by musicians who geographically represent the entire nation. Among others, there are also themes by Giuseppe Verdi, remembered in the cemetery's Famedio with a bronze bust and for whom Arturo Toscanini - who was also buried in the Monumentale - conducted the orchestra of La Scala and eight hundred choristers in "Va pensiero", on the occasion of the transfer to the retirement home for musicians of the remains of the great master who gave his name to the Milan Conservatory.

Deputy Mayor and Security Councilor Anna Scavuzzo will participate in the event, with free entry while places last as per current legislation.

During the day, four thematic itineraries will be offered to discover the rich artistic and cultural heritage preserved at the Monumentale:

  • at 12:00 "The language of the Monumental", edited by Albachiara Usai, dedicated to the discovery of symbols and symbols hidden in funerary sculptures;
  • at 12:20 "Liberty - a European style in Milan", curated by Sanjida Tonni, a visit to discover the main artistic works linked to the Liberty movement;
  • at 16:10 "Great publishers - another Milan to browse", curated by Zoia Cristian Andres, a journey dedicated to the discovery of the tombs of the great publishers present at the Monumentale;
  • to 16pm,”Adolfo Wildt - the soul and the form", edited by Dr. Mirko Agliardi, to discover the great Milanese sculptor.

The next appointment is scheduled for Sunday 27 June with the return of the "Open-air Museum" exhibition created in collaboration with Fondazione Milano.
