“Exactly one year after the start of the pandemic, the entire world of fashion is experimenting with new ways of showing itself, telling its story and presenting itself thanks to new communication languages but above all to innovative production methods, increasingly attentive to the reuse of materials and recycling, with a view to circularity and overall sustainability that goes from the yarn to the finished product. As an Administration - explains the councilor for Labor Policies, Productive Activities, Fashion and Design, Cristina Tajani - we are always at the side of Camera Moda and all the companies that innovate, because fashion is the entire fashion sector and they remain above all research in materials, forms and languages. “The rich calendar of this edition of Milano Moda Donna – concludes Tajani – demonstrates how great the desire on the part of the fashion houses and operators to tell the world, yesterday through fashion shows and today through the internet and digital, our taste for beautiful and well made in addition to our great craftsmanship".

Inclusion, diversity, training, sustainability, storytelling, digitalisation and support for young talents are represented in fashion week through ad hoc initiatives.

“I am very happy to see the participation of many of our members and the presence of new brands for this Fashion Week too, to underline the importance and value of Milan Fashion Week even in such a difficult moment for our industry - declares Carlo Capasa, President of the National Chamber of Italian Fashion -. This edition of Milan Fashion Week once again demonstrates a highly flexible approach, which has pushed all the actors in the fashion industry to experiment with new expressive languages and to seek alternative ways to promote and distribute the great creations that contribute to making this unique week on the international scene. Also central in this edition are topics such as environmental and social sustainability, training and support for emerging brands, storytelling and clearly digitalisation. However, a theme that I want to underline is the attention to craftsmanship, which needs great support more than ever. The agreement with Confartigianato Imprese goes in this sense, alongside us in the construction of a fashion week that tells of a supply chain that is unique in the world and never so cohesive".

The fashion week will open with a tribute to Beppe Modenese, honorary president of the Camera Nazionale della Moda Italiana, who passed away on November 21, 2020. The video tribute was curated and directed by Beniamino Barrese, while the production was handled by The Blink Fish. Followed by the digital event “WE ARE MADE IN ITALY - The Fab Five Bridge Builders”. The project curated by Stella Jean, Edward Buchanan, Michelle Francine Ngonmo and CNMI is focused on celebrating the values of inclusion and multiculturalism.
CNMI's commitment to supporting emerging talents is reaffirmed through various initiatives, including the renewal of the collaboration between CNMI and Rinascente, inaugurated last September, in support of young Made in Italy brands. A pop-up store will be set up in the Piazza Duomo store to offer real and commercial, as well as media, support to some of the most promising names on the national fashion scene.

Also for this edition, the event can be followed on www.milanofashionweek.cameramoda.it the CNMI platform that continues to make Fashion Week content accessible digitally. Budapest Select also returns, for the fifth time 7 Hungarian brands will participate in Milan Fashion Week, with a digital fashion show, which will be broadcast on February 26th at 11:00 in the Live-Stream calendar.

Another novelty is the room dedicated to the valorisation of Italian educational excellence, with the Florentine school Polimoda as the protagonist. The school will present a Fashion Movie set in Florence entitled Human Poetics. A creative journey and a contemporary look towards a new Renaissance, which sees 20 young fashion designers as protagonists in as many suggestive locations.

On the CNMI platform, the great Italian artisan mastery will also be highlighted with a dedicated room curated by Sara Sozzani Maino, created in collaboration with Confartigianato Imprese, which features the talent of 5 artisans: Duccio Mazzanti (Mazzanti Piume since 1935 -Florence- ), Alberto Bevilacqua (handcrafted fabrics since 1875 -Venice-), Vivian Saskia Wittmer (made-to-measure shoes -Florence-), Marina Rizzini (Bice&Berta made-to-measure knitwear since 1992 -Bergamo-) and Anna Tosi - (Pagliani and Brausser fabric flowers and millinery since 1946 – Verona).
