Mobility. Three million incentives for the purchase of cars and motorbikes with low environmental impact

Thanks to the Municipality's contributions, 1.791 new low environmental impact vehicles are already in circulation today

Milan, September 12 2021 – The municipal administration is making new incentives available for private individuals who have purchased or will purchase new vehicles with low environmental impact in 2021. This is three million euros which helps to improve the quality of the car and motorbike fleet circulating in the city and therefore the quality of the air. The decision also responds to the need to make alternative forms of mobility available to citizens to the use of public transport given the continuation of the anti-COVID regulations which limit the capacity on trams, buses and subways.

Incentives constitute an important motivation for vehicle replacement: in Milan in 2020, 8,5 million euros have already been made available thanks to which citizens have been able to scrap 794 highly polluting vehicles and purchase 1.791 new vehicles with low environmental impact (689 hybrid, electric, bi-fuel cars, 230 electric scooters, 842 bicycles and 30 electric cargo bikes).

The contributions will be paid out through a new call which will be published on the Municipality's website in the next few days and will be available to families until 31 December 2021 or until the funds run out. It will be possible to access it as long as adult citizens resident in Milan. The contributions can be combined with state incentives and the amount is calculated on the final price already including the state bonus.

To access contributions for the purchase of hybrid (electric/petrol and electric/diesel), electric, hydrogen, bi-fuel vehicles, private individuals will have to remove a petrol-powered passenger transport vehicle up to and including Euro 3 for demolition. or diesel up to and including Euro 6. The contribution is reduced by 20% for those who will not scrap and will instead choose to arrange for the simultaneous cancellation for export abroad of a Euro 5 and 6 diesel passenger transport vehicle.

The purchase of a new electrically powered motor vehicle or moped is also encouraged with a contribution equal to 60% of the total cost and up to a maximum of 3 thousand euros provided that there is the simultaneous demolition of a petrol-powered passenger transport vehicle of up to Euro 3 or diesel up to Euro 6 or if the same vehicle is intended for export (Euro 5 and 6 diesel only), or the deregistration of a motor vehicle or moped with two-stroke fuel up to and including Euro 3, four-stroke petrol up to Euro 2 included. Contribution even without the obligation to write off an old vehicle, but equal to 40% of the total cost and up to a maximum of 1,8 thousand euros for the purchase of a new motor vehicle or moped

All incentives will be paid only once and for one vehicle only.
