“The implementation of this project – declares Marco Granelli councilor for Mobility and Public Works – will help prevent neighborhoods such as Giambellino and Ronchetto from being invaded by cars and wild parking, protecting the residents of this part of the city. With the blue metro line, residents and citizens coming from other municipalities will be in the center in a few minutes without having to use the car and also connected to cycle paths and urban streets which will be freed from traffic".

The Merula-Chiodi car park responds to the city's new needs and the need to move more easily without bringing traffic into residential neighborhoods; with the creation of the new metropolitan infrastructure it was possible to rethink the entire area by creating new connections, enhancing public transport and alternative mobility to private vehicles, even for those coming from outside the city. The project also includes superficial arrangements with pedestrian and cycle paths, large green areas planted with tall trees and play areas.

The hub, designed by Mm, is closely connected to the new Chiodi-Enna-Merula road network, which will free Via Ludovico il Moro, the Navigli and the Ronchetto district from traffic, and to the cycle/pedestrian walkway in Piazza Tirana-San Cristoforo-Ronchetto sul Naviglio , which in turn connects the Giambellino-Lorenteggio district to the Navigli and the South Park and allows the inhabitants of the Ronchetto sul Naviglio district and the citizens of Buccinasco and Corsico to quickly access the subway.

Also connected to the cycle/pedestrian walkway, a velo station will be built to complete the hub's mobility offer.

The San Cristoforo-Merula interchange car park will be built on municipal areas and areas owned by the National Agency for the Administration and Destination of Assets Seized and Confiscated from Organized Crime, granted free of charge because they are intended for public utility functions.
