Milan, May 3 2022 – Work continues for the construction of the Ven.To cycle path in the third section: this will entail, starting from next May 10th, the closure of the Naviglio Pavese towpath from via Don Rodrigo to via Gattinara, as foreseen by the projects and approved by the council in October last year.

Overall, the Ven.To cycle route, a project born within the walls of the Milan Polytechnic and which the Municipality of Milan has supported from the beginning, connects Venice to Turin and is one of the great cycle itineraries that will make up the national system and European (Eurovelo) of tourist cycle routes.

The Milanese stretch extends for almost five kilometers along the Naviglio Pavese, starting from the pedestrian area of the Darsena to the end of the Municipality's territory and will also be important for those who use the bicycle for work or study reasons, given that it will connect directly the center with the southern area of the Milan metropolitan area.

After the creation of the pedestrian area, inaugurated a few years ago between the Darsena and via Darwin, the works currently underway from the intersection with via Darwin to via Don Rodrigo include the creation of a protected area reserved for cyclists and a new sidewalk along the canal bank: the intervention also includes the calming of traffic on the roadway intended for motor vehicles, as well as the creation of tree-lined flowerbeds and parking spaces for cars, motorbikes and bicycles.

From via Don Rodrigo towards the south and up to via Gattinara, it is planned to reserve the entire towpath only for pedestrian and cycle traffic, except for the stretch between Conca Fallata and via Boffalora which will remain open to car and motorbike traffic to allow for access to the group of homes present.

The works will be completed by the end of the year and the overall cost of the project is 2,5 million euros, of which 750.000 coming from a state fund for road safety provided by the Region.

The management of the closure to traffic in the next few days will take place in agreement with the Municipality of Assago, with the aim of limiting inconvenience and safety problems during the construction phase.

The Administration has also delegated to AMAT (Mobility, Environment and Territory Agency) the verification of the impact of the closure of the Towpath to traffic on the surrounding roads. The study has highlighted that the parallel A7 and SS dei Giovi, thanks to the former's capacity to absorb 6.000 vehicles per hour and the latter 1.500 per hour, will be able to easily accommodate the approximately 300 vehicles that currently travel along the stretch of the highway during the busiest hours.
