Mobility. The duration of the electric micromobility experimentation has been extended by one year

Milan, July 9 2022 – The Municipality of Milan has approved the extension of the duration of the experimentation on electric micromobility until 26 July 2023.

In 2019, the Ministry of Infrastructure and Transport defined the implementation methods and operational tools for the road testing of scooters and required the Municipalities to authorize circulation in urban areas. In the same year, the Municipality of Milan approved the experimentation and subsequently the guidelines for the identification, through public notice, of public or private entities interested in carrying out shared mobility services with devices for electric micromobility under the conditions and with the guarantee requirements indicated by the Administration.

The Municipality of Milan, after the Government further extended the experimentation until 26 July 2023 last June, has therefore decided to in turn postpone the deadline until that date, keeping the experimentation of the circulation of scooters on the road active.

Currently the total number of electrical devices allowed in circulation is 6000 vehicles, with a maximum limit of 750 vehicles per fleet. At the moment there are seven operators active in Milan for a total of 5250 scooters.

“We want to continue with the experimentation of sharing services – explains Arianna Censi, councilor for Mobility – because we are convinced that promoting these forms of mobility, complementary to public transport, offers greater travel possibilities to Milanese citizens, helping to reduce the use of 'car".
