Mobility. Piazzetta Bossi becomes pedestrian

Granelli-Maran: "Enhancement of public space and expansion of the pedestrian area in the centre". The Council accepted the project from the company Bossi Scala property SpA

Milan, 13 April 2021 – The pedestrian area in the city center is further expanding. The Council accepted the donation from the Bossi Scala property SpA company of the project and works for the transformation of Piazzetta Bossi into a pedestrian area. Municipality 1 had already expressed itself in favor of the pedestrianization proposed by the Administration with a resolution approved in July 2018.

The intervention involves the redevelopment of the square, in the section between via Clerici and via Boito up to the intersection with via del Lauro, by raising the carriageway level to the sidewalk: to guarantee continuity to the current paving of the pedestrian area of via Filodrammatici, the new flooring will be made of granite slabs and will be protected with the installation of mobile bollards.

"The intervention, which will guarantee greater safety and liveability in an area currently passed through, falls within the scope of the interventions to enhance the city's squares and streets – declare the councilors Marco Granelli (Mobility) and Pierfrancesco Maran (Urban Planning) – The center of Milan has one of the largest pedestrian areas in Europe and we have recently seen how interventions such as the redevelopment of via Ragazzi del '99, via Santa Radegonda, the restyling of Piazza Liberty, have significantly improved the quality of public space and valorised the monumental context in which they are located".

Access to Piazzetta Bossi will be permanently limited to pedestrians only, except for emergency vehicles, public utility vehicles and vehicles belonging to owners of parking spaces which can be accessed by passing exclusively through the pedestrian area. Piazzetta Maurilio Bossi, from a road network point of view, has a purely local function with access from via dei Bossi and exit in via Boito. The small square is the natural outlet of via Filodrammatici, already pedestrianised. The area today is messy, with irregular calibers of the road surface and characterized by the widespread presence of irregular parking, including heavy vehicles.

The works will be carried out by the company that is working on the hotel at number 2 of Piazzetta Bossi.
