Mobility. From Wednesday 9 June, Area B, Area C and regulated parking will be reactivated

The provision of the Municipality taken in agreement with the Prefecture at the end of the school year, based on local public transport and city traffic data

Contingent and urgent ordinance no. 40 pursuant to art. 50 paragraph 5 of Legislative Decree 267/2000 relating to the adoption of further exceptional measures aimed at combating the spread of Covid-19 contagion and dealing with the emergency situation

Milan, June 3 2021 - Reactivation of Area B, restoration of the normal opening hours of Area C (7am-30pm), of regulated parking in paid spaces (blue lines) and in those reserved for residents (yellow lines) and of the ban on parking for street cleaning. On Wednesday 19 June, as decided by the Municipality of Milan in agreement with the Prefecture, the mobility provisions that had been temporarily suspended as part of the measures aimed at containing the Coronavirus will return into force.

Area B
Starting from 9 June, with the usual weekly hours (Monday-Friday, excluding holidays, from 7:30 to 19:30), the cameras in Area B will be reactivated, the limited traffic area with access and circulation prohibited for more polluting vehicles which coincides with a large part of the territory of the city of Milan. Entry will be forbidden to diesel vehicles euro 0, 1, 2 and 3, petrol euro 0 and 1 and to all vehicles over 12 meters in length (except those directed to their offices). From 9 June, 145 cameras will therefore be in operation: of these, 55 will immediately be used for sanctions and the rest as the pre-exercise period ends. Another 43 cameras will be installed and gradually activated during the year.

Area C
Area C also returns to normal operation (therefore for a fee from 7.30 to 19.30 and with access bans for diesel vehicles euro 0, 1, 2, 3 and 4 and petrol euro 0 and 1), until now active with reduced hours.

Regulated parking
The stop with yellow stalls intended for residents will once again be reserved. Paid parking, with blue stalls, will once again be paid for (except, where applicable, for those residing or domiciled in the respective areas in possession of the pass). The no-parking control service is also restored when the streets are cleaned.

Specific exceptions will remain in force for people who work in the emergency health and social care sector and the suspension of Area B for euro 4 diesels will remain in place until new provision, in line with the provision adopted by the Regions of the Po Valley.

Data
Since Lombardy entered the yellow zone, private traffic data in the city have undergone a progressive increase: compared to 2019, the congestion index is 47% higher, while entries into Area C of vehicles subject to payment are 37% higher. 8%. By turning Area B back on and restoring Area C at the end of the school year, consequences on the level of public transport will be avoided. In fact, with the absence of students, passengers will decrease in the most critical hours and, thanks to the Pact on city timetables promoted by the Prefect and the Mayor of Milan, and signed by all business and commercial categories and by workers' union representatives, we will continue to avoid the concentration of passengers in the hours of greatest use, between 9 and XNUMX in the morning.

Furthermore, in recent weeks, there has been an increase in the use of bicycles and shared vehicles; phenomenon that lightens the public transport line on the surface and in the subway, without however aggravating congestion and pollution.

"With the resumption of many activities – declares the councilor for Mobility Marco Granelli – the city needs to move in safety and functionality: now that the school year is over we can reinstate the measures for managing traffic, protecting neighborhoods from parking and crossing traffic, maintaining and reinforcing the commitment to safe and effective public transport, and to an ever-increasing use of sustainable bicycle mobility and sharing. If citizens who can do so choose to use bicycles, all those who have no alternatives to the use of the car, as well as surface public transport, service and goods traffic will be able to move better, with benefits on air quality. I thank all the signatories of the Pact on timetables and all those, businesses, workers, citizens, who are differentiating their timetables and choosing sustainable mobility".
