The circulation of all unauthorized vehicles is again prohibited

Milan, May 13 2020 - With the gradual return to normality, at the end of the emergency measures to contain traffic adopted against the spread of the COVID-19 virus, private vehicle traffic is growing and it is therefore necessary to protect public transport.

For this reason, the Administration has issued an ordinance accompanying the openings scheduled for next week: from Monday 18 May the cameras that control the preferential lanes of public transport will be turned back on and the circulation of all unauthorized vehicles will be prohibited.

The provision partially modifies theOrdinance no. 21 of 30 April 2020 which remains in force for all other parts until May 31st.

In recent days AMAT, the Municipality's environmental and mobility company, has found that in the period between Monday 4 and Friday 7 May, the first week of the so-called Phase 2, compared to the previous period in which they were in force, the most restrictive measures, an average daily increase in congestion of approximately 39% and an average daily increase of approximately 79% in vehicular access to the borders of the town center detected through the cameras of  Area B.

“We expect - declares Marco Granelli, Councilor for Mobility - that starting from Monday, with the new openings that will be defined in the next few days by the Government and the Region, there will be a new increase in traffic. For us it is important to always give priority to public transport also in consideration of the reduced capacity to transport people due to containment measures. We want buses and trams to be able to circulate smoothly and for this reason all the measures that regulate circulation in the reserved lanes are back in force."

Contingent and urgent order pursuant to art. 50 paragraph 5 of Legislative Decree 267/2000 relating to the adoption of further exceptional measures aimed at combating the spread of CoViD-19 contagion and dealing with the emergency situation
