Councilor Censi: "The objective is to redevelop the road surface and minimize the noise impact" - Changes to public transport routes and stops in via Nono e Viale Gorizia

Milan, January 7 2022 – Work continues on the modernization of the ATM surface network. From next Monday, January 10th, the renovation works on the tramway infrastructure in via Luigi Nono in Municipality 8 and in viale Gorizia in Municipality 6 will begin.

"The objective of these interventions – explains Mobility Councilor Arianna Censi – is to improve travel comfort for users, minimize the noise impact when vehicles pass and redevelop the road surface for residents".

The works in via Luigi Nono will be completed by the end of January and will complete the larger intervention, which started in July 2021, carried out in the area of the Major Cemetery. The road will be passable by cars, while the left turn that leads from the Monumental Cemetery to via Procaccini will be prohibited.

The Viale Gorizia construction site is more complex and the works, divided into two phases, will last until April.

The first phase, more complex, will concern the stretch of via Gorizia from Ripa di Porta Ticinese to the branch of via Vigevano, with total interruption of traffic involving both road traffic and tram lines, suspended for the entire time of the works. Furthermore, at the same time, a small stretch from Via Mortara to Corso Cristoforo Colombo will be renewed, in this case only on one track and therefore allowing vehicular traffic for all those who reside in the street.

Even in the second phase, which concerns the section of viale Gorizia that runs alongside the Darsena and reaches via Mortara, the intervention will be carried out on a single track and vehicular traffic will be allowed for residents.

The works in Viale Gorizia include, for the section affected by the Gorizia-Vigevano branch, the reconstruction of the concrete tramway base with an underlying floating slab and anti-vibration mat while, for the remaining part, the installation of a mat under the foundations of the rails made of crushed stone and concrete sleepers. In both cases these are solutions to reduce noise and vibrations.

For the duration of the works, the routes of the public transport involved (on Via Nono, trams 12 and 14 and bus 25 and on Viale Gorizia, trams 9 and 10 and buses 25 and 26) will undergo route and stop changes. Details are available on the ATM website.
