Milan, 24 August 2021 – With the installation and tracking of vertical and horizontal signs, the permanent evening Limited Traffic Zone in via Ascanio Sforza, in the Navigli area, is preparing to launch on Wednesday 1 September.

The preparatory operations for the tracing of the horizontal signs and the installation of the vertical signs began this morning: the intervention should be completed by Monday 30 August but the prescriptive signs will remain covered until the ZTL comes into force on Wednesday 1 September.

The measure responds to the need to improve liveability in the area, respecting the natural pedestrian vocation of the Navigli area: it will allow the spaces to be used with greater safety by everyone, enhancing the commercial activities present and guaranteeing transit and parking for residents.

The new ZTL will be active from 19pm to 6am the following day, Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday; from 19pm on Friday to 6am on Monday. It will concern the following streets: Ascanio Sforza from the intersection with via Scoglio di Quarto to the intersection with via Conchetta, Scoglio di Quarto from the intersection with access to the underground car park in Corso Manusardi (excluded) to via Ascanio Sforza, Fratelli Bettinelli, Lagrange , Pavia in the stretch between Ascanio Sforza and the first gap useful for turning around (for an extension of approximately 20 metres).

The ZTL provides for the establishment of a speed limit of 15 km/h in the following streets: in via Scoglio di Quarto, maintaining the one-way direction Ascanio Sforza; in via Bettinelli and via Lagrange, the first maintaining the two-way traffic, the second maintaining the current one-way direction Corso S. Gottardo (in both the possibility of parking for residents will remain); in via Pavia, in the short stretch between via Ascanio Sforza and the first one turns back, in a two-way direction.

By way of derogation from the provision, transit and parking are permitted for residents and domiciled residents; to bicycles, rescue, emergency and police vehicles; to support vehicles for demonstrations, events and essential services, subject to authorization from the competent local police area command; to vehicles used for road cleaning and maintenance, for the time strictly necessary to carry out the operations; to taxis and vehicles used for rental services with drivers not exceeding nine seats, including the driver, directed within the ZTL, limited to passenger loading and unloading operations.

Furthermore, transit is only permitted to owners of garages or parking spaces located within the private areas whose access is from the streets included in the ZTL.

The installation and switching on of the two cameras - one in via Scoglio di Quarto, at the intersection with Corso Manusardi, the other in via Pavia, at the last turn back before the intersection with via Ascanio Sforza - will take place within the end of the year, upon completion of the necessary technical requirements.
