Mobility. The definitive project for the Milan-Limbiate tramway has been approved by the council

Councilor Censi: "An important step to speed up the waiting time to find the funds for the extra costs"  Milan, 2 December 2022 – The Council has approved the definitive project, worth over 179 million euros, for the redevelopment of the Milan-Limbiate tramway. The resolution is preparatory to finding the resources to finance the entire work which, from the Comasina district in Milan, crosses the municipalities of Cormano, Paderno Dugnano, Senago, Varedo and Limbiate.  The overall cost of the tramway redevelopment, initially estimated at around 153 million and 224 thousand euros, increased due to the crisis that hit the construction sector, leading to a surge in the prices of building materials.  At the moment the funds available for the intervention, obtained through various agreements signed with the Ministry of Infrastructure and other interested parties, are close to the original figure. To start the works, the costs of which are estimated at 179.224.972 euros, it is necessary to find further financing worth 26,9 million (since these are not PNRR funds, the extra costs are not automatically covered).  To meet the mobility needs of the citizens who live along the route, the replacement bus service has been strengthened after the closure of the tramway, particularly in the early morning hours.  “The one approved is a very important act – explained Arianna Censi, councilor for Mobility – in order to speed up the tender procedures as much as possible, when coverage of the extra costs is found. This method was agreed with the mayors of the route, with whom we started a fruitful dialogue and joined forces to ask for funding for a work that has been awaited for many years. We now ask the Government to quickly identify the resources for an essential work: if the funds arrived, we would be able to award the tender as early as 2023 and imagine the work starting in 2024".
