Mobility. The construction site for the redevelopment of Corso Sempione has opened

Milan, March 15 2021 – The construction site for the redevelopment of Corso Sempione starts today, from the intersection of via Melzi d'Eril with via Canova to the intersection of via Emanuele Filiberto with via Biondi.
The first works concern signage works and small structural interventions to create parking stalls in the roadway along the two parterres and create bollards to protect the trees and benches, and therefore maintain the decorum. The end of these interventions is scheduled for May. At that point the structural redevelopment works will begin. The completion of the entire redevelopment of Corso Sempione is scheduled for spring 2022.
The project, presented to citizens in 2019, involves the development of greenery and lanes dedicated to cycling and pedestrians, more safety at intersections, the elimination of degradation and wild parking but also more regular spaces for residents.
The course will be a tree-lined avenue with two lanes for vehicles in each direction, as already today in Viale Certosa, with a side street for each direction and two green tree-lined parterres with a pedestrian lane and a two-metre wide cycle path inside. . The free and green areas, today often used for wild parking, will be reorganized. The redevelopment will make it possible to redesign the regular parking spaces intended mainly for residents, with the creation of approximately 270 new spaces in addition to the 700 existing regular ones. The investment is 4 million euros coming from the European Pon Metro funds.

"The city has been asking for interventions for the redevelopment of Corso Sempione for some time - declares Marco Granelli, councilor for Mobility and Public Works -. The street is one of the main accesses to Milan and has a strong impact not only on the neighborhood but on the entire city. Today the parterres are used for irregular parking and this generates degradation. With this project, citizens will have at their disposal a four-lane road but also new green areas and the connection with cycle routes in the central-northern direction to connect the Arco della Pace, Piazza Firenze, Cascina Merlata and the Mind district".
