Mobility. Work in progress Matteotti begins

Milan, June 6 2023 – Work will start on Monday 12 June which will affect Corso Matteotti between Via Bagutta and Corso Venezia, carried out by private individuals, for the reorganization and redevelopment of existing spaces.

An initial intervention involves the widening of the pavements with stone finishing in the stretch of Corso Matteotti between Via Monte Napoleone and Via Bagutta, as well as the construction of an asphalt walkway between the same streets, the installation of curtain walls and other furnishing elements, including the adaptation of traffic light and rainwater disposal systems.

A second intervention instead involves the widening of a portion of the sidewalk in Piazza San Babila, in alignment with the intervention in Corso Matteotti, the arrangement of the road surface of Via Bagutta at the same level as the pedestrian paths with the laying of paving in porphyry cubes , in addition to the expansion of the pedestrian space towards Corso Venezia with a connection between the existing cycle path and the one under construction.

New bicycle stalls in the pedestrian area and new motorbike parking stalls on the road are also planned, as well as the adaptation of the traffic light and rainwater disposal systems.

To proceed safely with the works, Corso Matteotti will become one-way in an east-west direction, in the stretch between Corso Venezia and Via San Pietro all'Orto until the end of the first intervention, estimated approximately around mid-September. The second intervention will be completed by the end of this year.

The two works will therefore start at different times (they will act simultaneously only in some cases) to minimize inconvenience for users. At the same time, interventions for the pedestrianization of via Baguttino will also begin, for now with temporary works, to allow the works in via Bagutta.

These works are part of the wider arrangement of the entire Piazza San Babila and Corso Europa, achieved thanks to the works of the M4 metro, the pedestrianization of Via Durini defined in agreement with the neighborhood committee and the construction of the Borgogna car park by private individuals.
