Mobility. 116 new parking spaces in the Maciachini interchange car park

Once the renovation is finished, the structure houses 430 cars

Milan, 6 December 2019 - A new sector of the Piazzale Maciachini interchange car park opens today with 116 spaces, thanks to which the structure reaches a total capacity of 430 parking spaces. The parking portion was subjected to structural reinforcement works carried out by MM.

The opening follows the inaugurations of three other structures which took place during 2019, for a total of over a thousand parking spaces: the underground car park in via Bovio, inaugurated in October, with one floor and around 250 parking spaces between the M3 stations Maciachini and Dergano, which serves - like the structure that is expanding today - the cars coming from the area north of Milan. In July it was the turn of 150 parking spaces, three reserved for people with disabilities, fifteen motorcycle spaces, a rack area with free access for 138 bikes and a velo station with 140 stalls in Abbiategrasso M2, a structure connected to a cycle path that connects the existing branches of via Missaglia and via Dudovich with the M2. In April, however, a new level of the interchange car park was opened at the Bisceglie stop of metro line 1 and the structure was increased with 460 parking spaces thanks to the redevelopment of the roof area. The structure serves citizens arriving in the city from the municipalities in the south-west and is located right outside the border of Area B and today, with the entry into force of the large anti-pollution ZTL, has strategic importance to allow commuters to leave the car before entering the city and easily use the red metro line.

"With today we are making over 1.000 more parking spaces available to citizens in a year - declares Marco Granelli, councilor for Mobility. - Facilitating parking in the structure allows us to keep cars stationary and take them off our streets. It allows those who live outside Milan to be able to leave the car and enter the city by metro, take advantage of the dense urban public transport network, and prevent commuter vehicles from occupying spaces dedicated to local residents. Investing in public transport, freeing up precious spaces along the pavements, protecting residents' parking, decongesting the city from traffic and improving the air, this is the objective we are consistently pursuing".

With these 116 new parking spaces in Maciachini, all the parking facilities managed by ATM reach a total of approximately 19.700 spaces.
