Sustainable mobility. 500 zero-emission buses in Milan by 2026

Milan, February 22 2022 – First step to use the PNRR funds for sustainable mobility: the Council has approved a resolution which authorizes the presentation of the request for access to the funds of the National Plan to be subsequently allocated to ATM for the fleet and vehicle renewal programme. related charging infrastructure.

This is the 249 million euros from the PNRR intended for Milan to purchase, by June 2026, 350 new zero-emission buses, powered by electricity or hydrogen, used exclusively for local public transport and related infrastructure.

These funds will allow ATM to reach 2026 with a total of 510 electric buses.
In particular, the Company has already planned to use 195 million euros for the purchase of electric buses, in addition to the 160 already in service on ten city lines, and the remaining 54 million for charging infrastructure.

These funds will allow ATM to continue the "Full electric" plan which involves the complete renewal of the fleet of 2030 vehicles by 1.200, making it completely zero impact.

"The Municipality of Milan, together with ATM – explains Arianna Censi, councilor for Mobility – is aiming to become the city with zero-emission public transport in less than a decade. A totally electric bus fleet will continue to guarantee efficiency of the service, eliminating emissions. The green future of our city requires commitment from the Administration to achieve important objectives. And the renewal of the ATM vehicle fleet is one of these".
