Censi and Grandi: "We are equipping the Città Studi area with a new collective space to improve the liveability and quality of life in the neighborhood in the name of greenery and more sustainable mobility" - The images of how Via Pacini will look

Milan, January 26 2022 – With the start of the redevelopment works on via Pacini, from via Ampère to via Capranica, the new green axis of the Città Studi area is born. The intervention, which will last approximately six months, has four objectives: to improve and guarantee safety for pedestrians in the area; promote the usability of the central parterre as an urban social space with furnishings and rest areas for bicycles and pedestrians; guarantee greater protection of existing greenery alongside new plantings that promote urban biodiversity and land drainage; last but not least, tidying up and protecting the parking of vehicles for residents thanks to the marking of paid blue lines for non-residents.

"Via Pacini is changing – explains Mobility Councilor Arianna Censi –, we have chosen to return the parterre to the city and citizens, especially to the residents of the neighbourhood, removing it from the chaos of wild parking. The new street will be attentive to everyone: pedestrians , cyclists and motorists. We are designing a new look for our neighborhoods, favoring their livability, beauty and therefore attractiveness for people and commerce".

"With this project – adds the councilor for the Environment and Green Elena Grandi – we are starting the profound transformation of the tree-lined parterre in Via Pacini which will allow the creation of a new green area accessible to all. This is the right way forward to make our most livable city. Fundamental for our future is to reduce the space available to cars in favor of sociality and greenery, protecting our trees and making the soil permeable. Furthermore, by improving urban mobility we will also intervene on air quality that we breathe to achieve a carbon-free city that is increasingly free from fine dust".

Specifically, the works for the redevelopment of the road axis leading to Lambrate station will take place in two different moments to reduce inconvenience and the impact on traffic and residents: the first concerns the stretch from via Ampère to via Teodosio, subsequently it will be the turn of the part between via Teodosio and via Capranica. In both cases we will start first with the marking of the blue parking lines for cars and motorbikes and subsequently with the restoration of the central area as a pedestrian space. In particular, benches, tables and racks, essential to encourage better use of the pedestrian path, will be positioned along the external edges of the parterre. A soil de-waterproofing intervention is also planned to promote better drainage of rainwater in addition to the removal of the current curbs, so as not to hinder the development of the roots of existing trees and future flowerbeds.

At intersections, pedestrian spaces will be expanded by eliminating redundant turns and unregulated areas, ensuring greater continuity and safety; further pedestrian crossings will also be added to make the entire axis more accessible, continuous and usable.

The study for the redevelopment of via Pacini was carried out by AMAT in collaboration with the Mobility and Green departments, taking into account the analysis of traffic flows and any subsequent effects on traffic.
