Mobility. Via Melchiorre Gioia, the section closed for the completion of the Pirellino works reopened to traffic early

Milan, August 29 2019 – The asbestos removal works in the building in via Pirelli 39 were completed well ahead of schedule. As of this morning, in fact, the stretch of via Melchiorre Gioia which insists between via Sassetti/Pirelli and viale Liberazione, in both directions. The public transport routes that cross the neighborhood have also returned to normal.

The councilor for Mobility and Public Works Marco Granelli expresses great satisfaction. “I had asked the technicians of the Administration and the companies to stay on time – he explains – and finishing earlier means reducing the inconvenience that the closure of a road inevitably brings with it. The Municipality has in mind a city where work is carried out to maintain the existing, make improvements and invest in the new. And we try to make them so that they impact as little as possible on the daily lives of the Milanese. Thanks therefore to those who know how to work well and plan and to the citizens for their patience."

The stretch was closed on 20 July for safety reasons, since the practice of asbestos removal requires that it be carried out within a compartmentalized area: in the case of Via Gioia this had led to the modification of the routes of the tourist bus lines , emergency vehicles and public transport, as well as private traffic. The section should have been reopened to traffic on 1 September as regards the roadway towards the city centre, and on 9 September also towards the suburbs.
The last, and final, phase of the works at the 'Pirellino' involves the completion of the reclamation on the ground and basement floors of the building, which will be completed this autumn.
