Mobility. The installation of the tracks in Piazza Firenze begins on Sunday 1 September

Milan, August 27 2019 – The works for the reconstruction of the tramway infrastructure, by Atm Spa on behalf of the Municipality of Milan, between Piazzale Accursio and Piazza Firenze will take place from 1st to 9th September. The road surface will also be rearranged for the occasion.

“This is certainly an impactful construction site – comments the councilor for Mobility and Public Works Marco Granelli – but it will last a few days and, above all, it will allow a truly important junction of Milan's road network to be redeveloped and made safer” .

54 meters of tracks will be replaced so as to improve the circulation of the trams that run along Viale Certosa and drastically reduce rattling noise, especially on curved sections. Thanks to the resurfacing, which will make it possible to fix potholes and depressions, the circulation of cars, motorbikes and bicycles will also be made much safer.

To allow the works to be carried out quickly and safely, the central lane from Piazzale Accursio to Piazza Firenze will be closed to traffic. Signage will be placed on site with temporary alternative routes for private traffic and local police patrols will always be present to monitor the situation and evaluate any further deviations during construction. The construction site will be reported both on variable signs in the city and on those of Autostrade near the entrances to Milan from the A8, A9 and A4.

The changes to public transport will concern trams 1 and 19. In particular, tram 1, in both directions, will divert between the Procaccini/Sempione and Piazza Firenze stops, passing through via Procaccini, via Messina and via Cenisio (making all the stops that are located along the alternative route).
As regards tram 19, there will be replacement buses between the Castelli terminus and Piazza 6 February. In both directions the replacement buses will travel along Viale Boezio, Largo Domodossola, Corso Sempione, Piazza Firenze, Via Bartolini, Via da Panicale and Via Mac Mahon. The trams will instead operate regularly between Lambrate FS M2 and Piazza 6 February.
