Milan, January 26 2023 – Tomorrow, Friday 27 January, Remembrance Day, the city will remember all the victims of the extermination camps and will reflect on the horror of the Shoah during numerous initiatives. Here are some created by the Municipality of Milan in collaboration with ANPI, ANED, UCEI, Rete #NoBavaglio-Free to be informed and Wikimedia Italia.

8:30 pm - Geoportal
From tomorrow morning, starting at 8 am, the Municipality will make public for 30 hours the geomap of the Jewish population registered in Milan in 24, based on the documentation preserved in the Citadel of archives.

Deposition of the Crown in the former Regina Hotel

9am - Ex Alberto Regina (via Silvio Pellico corner via Santa Margherita)  

  • The Municipality and the Permanent Anti-Fascist Committee honor partisans, resisters and Jews by placing a wreath of flowers at the plaque of the former Albergo Regina, headquarters of the Nazi General Command where many were imprisoned and tortured. Authorities and representatives of the municipal administration intervene.

11am - Alessi Room, Palazzo Marino (Piazza della Scala 2)  

  • Palazzo Marino opens its doors to a representation of students from Milanese schools on Remembrance Day. The event is promoted by the municipal administration together with ANPI, ANED, UCEI and the Deportation Memory Foundation.

  • At the House of Memory Task force for the study of the Holocaust and its denial of Wikipedia, with the patronage of the Municipality of Milan, of Milan is Memory, of the ANED, of Wikimedia Italia and of the #NoBavaglio Network - Free to be informed. An edit-a-thon (i.e. a marathon of writing new entries) will take place focusing on writing entries about the Holocaust. Participants will contribute, in person and remotely (from various parts of Italy and from Italian Switzerland), to writing and refining entries on the Wikipedia encyclopedia.  
  • At Palazzo Reale, from 10 to 30, as part of Memoriandum, the conference on Memory, Resilience and Resistance is scheduled.  

Commemoration at the Deportee Monument

11am - North Park    

  • Commemoration at the Monument to the Deported Person in the North Park. The monument located at the top of the Montagnetta. The Monument is dedicated to the approximately 600 factory workers in the industrial area of ​​Sesto San Giovanni arrested by the Nazi-fascists and deported to the concentration camps. Created by the architects Ludovico (former deportee) and Alberico Belgioioso, it consists of a staircase, evocative of that of the Mauthausen concentration camp, which leads to the top of the mountain, where the gravestones with the names of the deportees stand out; an iron stele with two arms reaching towards the sky holds granite boulders, in memory of the forced labor in the Nazi camps.
