Milan is memory. The plaque dedicated to Enzo Tortora will be unveiled on March 30th

The ceremony initially scheduled for November 30th has been postponed until next spring

Milan 27 November 2020 – The plaque in memory of Enzo Tortora, in via dei Piatti 8, where he had his Milanese residence, will be unveiled next spring, Tuesday 30 March.

The municipal administration, on the proposal of Francesca Scopelliti, companion of the popular Italian presenter and politician, has decided to postpone the date, initially set for November 30, the anniversary of his birth in Genoa in 1928.

A choice made to allow the ceremony to take place and above all a moment of remembrance awaited by many people. Not only from his dearest loved ones, from his friends and party comrades, but from many ordinary people who have followed him over the years, first as a kind face on television and then in his long and painful legal case.

Hence the decision and the choice of the new date. It will take place on March 30, the Tuesday before Easter, an anniversary traditionally dedicated by the Radicals to initiatives and reflections on the theme of justice.

We remember that Enzo Tortora returned to Milan, to the house in Via dei Piatti 8, to serve his house arrest after spending almost a year in prison. He lived in that house until the day of his death, May 18, 1988, a year after his full acquittal in the Court of Appeal.

In Via dei Piatti the beloved host, who became a champion of civil rights, began his judicial and political battle in the ranks of the Radical Party.

The decision to remember Enzo Tortora was formalized at the end of August by the municipal council which decided on the creation of the plaque by implementing the motion approved by the municipal council in the meeting of 30 September 2019.

The commemorative plaque for Enzo Tortora is part of the Municipality's program of initiatives "Milan is memory".
