Milan, 23 April 2021 – "Una serie di grandi campane tubolari, sollecitate dal soffio del vento, si muovono e fanno riecheggiare la memoria delle donne di cui portano inciso il nome di battaglia". Si chiama Fischia il vento ed è l'opera artistica inaugurata oggi in piazzale delle Donne partigiane e a loro dedicata.

Allo svelamento, che anticipa le iniziative per il 25 aprile, Anniversario della Liberazione, hanno preso parte Santo Minniti, Presidente Municipio 6, Luca Gibillini, Milano è memoria, Didi Gnocchi, Direttore editoriale associazione Chiamale storie, Daniela Volpi, architetto, Roberto Cenati, Presidente ANPI provinciale Milano e Ada Gigli Marchetti, Presidente Istituto lombardo di Storia contemporanea. Con le testimonianze di Lydia Franceschi, Ebe Bavestrelli e Luara Wronowski.

L'installazione degli architetti Angelo M. Gulino e Claudio Ravazza è la vincitrice del concorso promosso a fine 2019 dall’associazione Chiamale storie, in collaborazione con la piattaforma del Comune Milano è memoria, l’Ordine degli architetti, P.P.C. di Milano, Sky Arte, ANPI provinciale di Milano e Istituto lombardo di Storia contemporanea, con l'intento di dare alla piazza della Barona un monumento in memoria delle partigiane. Una iniziativa nata con il progetto Partigiane 2.0, ideato e promosso dall’associazione Chiamale storie nell’ambito di MemoMI, con l’obiettivo di rafforzare la memoria storica legata alle vicende delle donne milanesi nella Resistenza.

L'opera Fischia il vento è stata scelta dalla giuria del concorso presieduta da Francesca Gori (ass. Chiamale storie) e composta da Daniel Libeskind (architetto), Francesco Bonami (storico dell’arte e curatore), Enrico David (artista), Liliana Moro (artista) e dai rappresentanti degli enti partner, che ha selezionato tre progetti vincitori.

First place

A series of large tubular bells, stimulated by the blowing of the wind, move and echo the memory of the women whose battle names are engraved on them. The whistle of the wind thus brings to mind the voices of women, their spontaneous coming together to fight against the enemy, but also a longing for freedom, also suggested by the momentum of the vertical structure, enclosed between two cubes bearing the conventional start and end dates of the Resistance. Music today as yesterday does the rest: it unites women and men around common ideals.

In one of their exchanges of letters, Natalia Ginzburg and Alba De Céspedes use the image of a well to indicate that "bad habit" of women of falling into a state of subjection, slavery and fear. The project starts from this idea: what at first glance seems just a large vegetal umbrella, approaching a mirror placed around the central pillar, reveals itself to be an inverted well, teeming with strength and passion. As the well forcefully crosses the earth, the partisan woman can rediscover the value of her own inner strength.

Third Place

A simple and immediate representation, truly understandable to everyone: the merry-go-round. Starting from a vintage photograph that portrays partisan women locked in an embrace, the project conveys the values ​​of strength, cohesion, friendship in one of the universal symbols of aggregation and peace. The female silhouette replicated seven times, like the number of colors of the rainbow, recalls the old game of cutting out the image of women holding hands from a sheet of paper. Designed to be completed with climbing roses, the installation recalls the colors of the Italian flag, a further invitation to a Resistance to always be renewed.
