Milan is memory. Events throughout the city for Remembrance Day
Milan, January 23 2020 – Twenty-eight new Stumbling Stones, the closure of the international project “FREE, there is no future without memory” and a series of events including seminars, exhibitions, films and testimonies: Milan celebrates Remembrance Day, Monday 27th, with a widespread program which affected the whole city during January.
Various actors were involved in the program coordinated by the Municipality's platform Milano è memoria: Sons of the Shoah Association, G. Verdi Conservatory of Milan, CDEC Foundation, Shoah Memorial Foundation, Sea, municipalities, Parco nord Milano, Giorgio Perlasca Foundation, ANPI, FAP , ANED, ANPC, ANPPIA, Bicocca University and Giardino dei Giusti association.
“It is important to see how the Administration's commitment corresponds to a great participation on the part of citizens and associations, who are increasingly involved in promoting meetings and moments of reflection on the themes of memory – declares the President of the City Council Lamberto Bertolé -. This year, in particular, the events on the Remembrance Day schedule close an intense month of initiatives dedicated to remembering the individual stories of many people who, due to having made a choice or the "single fault of being born", did not they returned to their homes. It was a way of countering, many years later, the plan of depersonalization carried out by Nazi-fascism and to combat any attempt at removal or denial."
After the laying of the 28 new Stumbling Stones, on 15 and 17 January, the testimony of the senator for life Liliana Segre to the school children gathered in the Arcimboldi Theater and the two days of closing of the international FREE project, between tomorrow and the day after tomorrow , which saw Milan as the leader in the construction of an institutional network between various European countries that dialogues with young people on the theme of memory, the program includes a series of initiatives for Remembrance Day which will see the participation, among others, of representatives of the 'Administration.
