Milan is memory. Ten history experts to support the Municipality to strengthen initiatives linked to the city's memory

Milan, 16 December 2021 – A panel of experts, to support the municipal administration and in particular the “Milan is Memory” Coordination Committee, to provide assistance in the definition of guidelines and strategies, in the collection of proposals, in the verification and drafting phase of texts, figures, plaques or engravings so that they are respectful of the historical facts, personalities and events linked to the city memory that it is intended to transmit.

With these objectives, ten profiles specialized in historical subjects have been identified who, thanks to their scientific expertise, will provide consultancy and qualified opinions regarding the interventions and initiatives subjected to examination by the Committee.

These are the names of the experts:
• Professor Giorgio Bigatti, Director of the scientific committee of the Institute for the History of the Contemporary Age;
• Professor Barbara Bracco, Professor of Contemporary History, Department of Sociology and Social Research, University of Milan-Bicocca;
• Professor Marco Cuzzi, Professor of Contemporary History, Department of Historical Studies, University of Milan;
• Professor Guido Formigoni, Professor of Contemporary History, Department of Humanities, IULM University;
• Professor Agostino Giovagnoli, Professor of Contemporary History and History and Communication of the Present Time, Department of History, Archeology and Art History, Catholic University of the Sacred Heart;
• Professor Ada Marchetti, President of the Lombard Institute of Contemporary History;
• Professor Paolo Pezzino, President of the 'Ferruccio Parri' National Institute;
• Professor Giorgio Sacerdoti, President of the Contemporary Jewish Documentation Center;
• Doctor Benedetta Tobagi, researcher in historical subjects, journalist and writer;
• Professor Paolo Zanini, Professor of Contemporary History, Department of Historical Studies, University of Milan.

Through the establishment of the "Milan is Memory" Committee and the creation of the platform of the same name, with a site hosted by the institutional web portal, in recent years the municipal administration has pursued the important objective of collecting the message coming from the city community and disseminating Memory through numerous events and initiatives.

With the aim of strengthening this direction, the Coordination Committee and the Panel of experts have already had a first meeting, a Palazzo Marino, chaired by the Chief of Staff Mario Vanni and Luca Gibillini, delegate for the coordination of Milan is Memory. During the meeting, the importance of the Memory for the Municipality of Milan was highlighted and the scientific consultants' willingness to provide assistance and propose their observations was confirmed.
