Milan, May 23 2022 – The sound of the siren of a fire brigade vehicle and then the silence played by the trumpet of maestro Raffaele Kholer. 17pm, Milan is gathered around the stele dedicated to the judges Giovanni Falcone and Paolo Borsellino, in the gardens dedicated to them in via Benedetto Marcello 58. Thirty years have passed since the Capaci massacre where on 4 May 23, the mafia murdered Judge Falcone detonated a TNT bomb on the highway between Punta Raisi airport and Palermo. In the attack, his wife and magistrate Francesca Morvillo and three escort agents, Antonio Montinaro, Rocco Dicillo and Vito Schifani, died together with the judge.

Every year, on this day of remembrance, the authorities and schools, starting from the nearby Volta Scientific High School, meet in these gardens to pay homage to the victims of the 1992 massacres, men and women who gave their lives fighting against crime organized, corruption, illegality. The commemoration, which began at 17pm, was attended by the associations involved in spreading the culture of legality among the youngest, starting with Libera, with the representative Lucilla Andreucci, the coordinator of the District Anti-Mafia Directorate, Alessandra Dolci, the honorary President of Libera, Nando dalla Chiesa, and the Municipality of Milan. Also present were many students who in recent days have remembered the thirtieth anniversary of the Capaci massacre during meetings, insights and workshops. And they gave voice to their thoughts by intervening together with the authorities and writing sentences on the sheets displayed in the gardens.

The City of Milan also remembered the Capaci massacre in Palermo, where an intense day of celebrations took place, opening this morning at the Foro Italico with the presence of thousands of students who took part in the event organized by the Falcone Foundation . On stage were the representatives of the highest institutions, where the Municipality of Milan was also present, which was then also represented in the procession that from Capaci headed towards Isola delle Female, where the stele stands in memory of Judge Giovanni Falcone, his wife Francesca Morvillo and the three men of the escort, Vito Schifani, Rocco Dicillo and Antonio Montinaro.

Dozens of Sicilian administrators and those from all over Italy took part in the procession, together with representatives of high institutions. Once we reached the stele, at 17pm a minute of silence and reflection was observed in memory of how exactly at that time and in that same place thirty years ago the history of our country had tragically changed.

The initiatives in memory of the victims of the Capaci massacre are part of the program of Milan is memory.
