Milan, February 6 2023 – With a symbolic flag-raising ceremony this morning, Milan celebrated the three years remaining until the opening of the Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games which will see the city as protagonist in 2026. Throughout the day today the flag of the Milan Olympics and Paralympics Cortina 2026 will fly on Piazza Duomo, next to the flag of Italy and Europe.

Representatives of institutions and the world of sport took part in the event.

The flag of Italy and that of Milan Cortina 2026 were raised on the flagpole of honor in front of the Cathedral. The tricolor was hoisted by officers of the Platoon of Honor of the local police to the tune of the Mameli anthem, played by the Civic orchestra of wind instruments. Instead, three champion athletes in figure skating – Sara Conti, Niccolò Macii and Rebecca Ghilardi – hoisted the white flag with "Futura" in the centre, the logo of Milano Cortina 2026.

The song from the 2026 Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games, "Until dawn", which sealed this important moment, was performed by some young students of the Milan Conservatory.

Rosita Brucoli (23 years old), student of pop singing, warmed up the square with her voice accompanied by Francesco Marrone (18 years old), student of piano and composition, and Giulio Gianni (18 years old), student of organ and composition, the authors of the anthem of Milan Cortina 2026.
