THE SYMBOLS OF THE FLAGS

The symbol of the Olympic flag, known as "the Olympic rings", is based on a design created by Pierre de Coubertin in 1913. It includes five interlocking circles, representing the union of the five continents and the meeting of athletes from all over the world at the Olympic Games. The symbol of the Paralympic Games is composed of three "agitos" of red, blue and green surrounding a single point on a white background. Each "action" (from the Latin "I move") represents movement and highlights the role of the International Paralympic Committee in bringing together the world's athletes to achieve sporting excellence and use sport as a tool to create a more inclusive world. The "agitos" symbol was created in 2003 and was officially used for the first time at the Turin 2006 Paralympic Winter Games. In 2019, the "agitos" were renewed with a new version and used for the first time at the Games Beijing 2022 Winter Paralympics.
