Milan helps. The cold plan for the homeless starts again today

From this evening the first insertions in the extraordinary structures available. The reporting number 0288447646 is always active

Milan, November 28 2022 - Starting today, Monday 28 November, as part of Milan Help, the Cold Plan of the Municipality of Milan will be reactivated with the aim of strengthening assistance to the homeless when winter temperatures put their safety at greater risk.
The first entrances to the structures owned by the Administration in viale Puglie and via Barabino and to the one owned by the Third Sector in via Saponaro are already scheduled for this night. The health screenings necessary for entry began, in fact, last week, to allow entry as early as this evening.
The available facilities will gradually be opened once the currently usable places are exhausted.

“The cold plan – explains the councilor for Welfare and Health Lamberto Bertolé – aims to respond to the primary need for a bed, especially when temperatures become colder, and at the same time to engage in a dialogue with those who have been living on the streets for a long time and has raised a wall of distrust towards others, to try to start a path of social re-inclusion. An effort that has strengthened and structured over the years, also thanks to the precious collaboration of the Third Sector. This year too we ask for the support of the people of Milan to report people in difficulty to us and help us activate timely and more effective interventions. The number 0288447646, made available by the Municipality, is active 24 hours a day, every day of the year".

Access to the facilities will be possible by showing up at the Sammartini Center in via Sammartini 120 which is the access point for all services for the homeless and which, starting from this weekend and to meet the needs of the winter season, will expand the Opening hours: from 9am to 13pm and from 14pm to 18pm on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday, from 14pm to 18pm on Wednesday and from 10am to 17pm on weekends and public holidays. Reception will be possible after a health screening by Italian volunteer doctors. For the first time this year, during the medical check-up, thanks to the collaboration with the Niguarda Asst, the flu vaccine will be offered.

The monitoring of the territory is also strengthened through the mobile units that patrol the city to provide support, offer a bed and assistance to those living on the streets. There are over twenty associations, coordinated by the Municipality, that collaborate for this service.

The services envisaged under the Plan also include the spaces of day centers, places that offer daytime reception with services that respond to primary needs through canteens, laundries, cloakrooms, medical clinics, hairdressers and engage the homeless in relational and educational paths with workshops and socialization and recreational activities.
