Milan, September 9 2019 – Inaugurated today, in the presence of the deputy mayor Anna Scavuzzo and Andrea Rebaglio of the Cariplo Foundation, with the contemporary art installation at Palazzo Marino dedicated to the massacre of Sant'Anna di Stazzema, “MEMI FEST – Let's Activate Memory”, the first urban festival dedicated to places of Memory.

The initiative, scheduled from 11 to 15 September, will be held in 17 places of memory and will involve 11 artists/companies/associations who will propose guided tours, urban itineraries, performances and shows using their art and experience to communicate memory and transmit values and stories.

The aim of the festival is to give new life to places of memory by telling the events and stories that characterized the decade 1938 - 1948 through the participation and active involvement of the inhabitants.

Entry to all scheduled events is free while seats last.

The project, created by the Nuvolanove Cultural Association with the contribution of the Cariplo Foundation and the patronage of the Municipality of Milan and the Bocconi University, was born in partnership with the Polytechnic of Milan - Department of Architecture and Urban Studies (DAStU), the INSMLI - Ferruccio Parri National Institute of Milan and CDEC Contemporary Jewish Documentation Center Foundation.

THE EXPERIENTIAL STRANDS

The events follow three experiential lines, three ways of experiencing the place and interacting with it:

LEARN / public meetings, urban itineraries and guided tours in which participants learn knowledge/memory;

SHARE / urban performances and installations in which participants share knowledge/memory;

PLAY / urban shows and performances in which participants interpret and stage knowledge/memory.

THE ARTISTS AND THEIR LANGUAGES
For five days the various places of the city's historical memory involved in the festival will be animated through a multiplicity of artistic languages: from the theatrical show staged by the Teatro della Cooperativa at the Camera del Lavoro to the Campoverde Ottolini Company which will involve the population at the San Vittore prison prison and outside the prison in an immersive playful performance, from the contemporary art installation to Palazzo Marino dedicated to the massacre of Sant'Anna di Stazzema by the young Gianni Moretti (as a preview of the festival from 9 to 11 September) up to the performance of the well-known artist Franco Mazzucchelli and Cramum at Parco Sempione, from guided tours organized by the associations Sui passi della History and Metropolitan Urban Ecomuseum of North Milan to the traveling performance of Nudo e Crudo Teatro, from the memory sharing practices implemented by the Ravani & Urrazza duo in the Central Station and by Giovanni Rubino in the Synagogue to the dynamic challenge between poets of the Poetry Slam at the Polytechnic of Milan, up to the evocative sound installation of Chelidon Frame at Bocconi.

A way to bring citizens closer to the history of their city through contemporary art and its languages, an opportunity also amplified by the possibility of navigating on the interactive map of the site where there is an in-depth historical analysis of all the places crossed by the festival.

The MEMI FEST is directed by Lucilla Tempesti and Marco Dal Cin and is organized by Nuvolanove, a non-profit association founded in Milan in 2008 which aims to activate awareness through creative actions and experiences.
