The joint project "The restless season of the Republic, the democratic response to the massacres" was presented
Milan, May 22 2019 - "The restless season of the Republic, the democratic response to the massacres" is the title of the memorial project for the five-year period 1969-1974 conceived by the municipal administrations of Milan and Brescia in memory of the massacres in Piazza Fontana and Piazza della Loggia.
The initiative, presented this morning at Palazzo Marino, aims to build a schedule of events open to the two cities from May to December 2019, 50 years after the terrorist attack on the headquarters of the National Agricultural Bank of Milan and 45 years after the one that occurred in the central square of Brescia.
Historical analysis meetings, book presentations, theatrical performances and initiatives in schools will be organized and proposed in the two cities with the aim of describing and investigating the complexity and uniqueness of the Restless Season of the Republic and bringing back the living memory of the present the spontaneous and popular reaction of citizens, which made it possible to stop that season of terrorism and political turbulence through the strength of democratic rules and a massive, tenacious democratic response, capable of identifying with the institutions and defending and promoting the values of the Constitution.
The construction of the program sees the collaboration of associations committed to memory, the world of theatre, the academic and scholastic world, trade unions and associations of victims' families.
In particular, the House of Memory of Milan and the House of Memory of Brescia, the Piazza Fontana Association, the associations of the victims' families, the University of Milan, the University of Brescia, the Catholic University and the University of Macerata, the School Office for Lombardy, CGIL, CISL and UIL, the Brescia Central Theatre, the Cooperative Theater and the Piccolo Teatro di Milano - Teatro d'Europa.
The project will be coordinated by the Milan is memory platform for the Municipality of Milan.
