Milan, September 7 2021 – The extension of the M1 metro line from Bisceglie to Baggio has reached the approval of the final project for an amount of 398 million euros. One of the most strategic mobility projects for Milan and its hinterland takes another important step forward: we now move on to the executive design (with approval by the end of the year) and then to launch the tender and award the works in the first half of 2023.

The financing of this great work is supported by the State and the Municipality of Milan. The first 8 million arrived thanks to the "Pact for Milan", another 210 million are guaranteed by the Ministry of Infrastructure and Sustainable Mobility with resources for rapid mass transport.

Compared to the feasibility project, approved in December 2020, the total cost of the work saw an increase of 40 million euros, due to a series of changes introduced at the Services Conference and which concern, among other things, the improvements made to the superficial arrangements, in particular in correspondence with the three new stations, and the introduction of further services and activities in the Olmi district in via degli Ulivi. As is already being done for the M4, the municipal administration considers it essential that, at the end of such impactful construction sites, the areas affected by the works are returned to the most beautiful and usable neighborhoods, with play areas, new greenery and larger spaces for passage of bicycles and pedestrians.

Furthermore, at the Parri station, a new exit to the south of via Parri has been planned and designed (which is added to the one to the north, towards the Valsesia district) allowing direct connection to the Mengoni district.

The additional route of the M1, made up of three stations, will be 3,3 km long and will serve a large population of citizens, represented primarily by residents of the neighborhoods who, thanks to the strengthening of the cycle paths, will also be able to reach the stops by bicycle and get to the center in 20 minutes.

Located near the connection of the state road 114 with the ring road, it will represent a concrete interchange opportunity to reach the city center, alleviating private traffic but also that of road transport entering Milan.
