Tajani: “We are experimenting with a different way to illustrate our courses, bringing training closer to the real training needs of the job market”

Milan, September 8 2019 – From the passion for graphics to the love for plants and greenery design, through catering and the creative manual skills of restoration, violin making and tailoring courses up to the study of foreign languages ​​useful for traveling and work. The Municipality of Milan helps you transform your passions into concrete training and work opportunities. In fact, the first open day of the Training Centers of the Municipality of Milan will be held on Tuesday 10 September, in viale D'Annunzio 15, to discover the entire training offer available to the Milanese thanks to the over 700 courses offered for the year 2019/20 . 

“This year – explains the councilor for employment policies Cristina Tajani – we thought of a different formula to present the Municipality's training: an interactive day between teachers and future students. An open day with a new idea: those who bring their training proposal will contribute, with us, to thinking of an educational offer truly in tune with the needs of the job market, the city and its citizens". 

For the whole day, from 10am to 18pm, you will have the opportunity to dialogue and discuss with the teachers of the various centers in order to learn about the training and teaching programs as well as collect information material on costs, times and opportunities. Furthermore, from the voice of former students, it will also be possible to collect testimonies on the importance of the different training courses offered and how these have influenced their professional growth.

The presentations of the centers will be enlivened by the many practical demonstrations that will alternate throughout the day: from 12pm to 13pm you will be able to discover the secrets and taste some creations from the kitchen and restaurant industry with "Fruit Fantasy and Smoothies" curated by the guys from Centro San Right. 

Afterwards, from 14pm to 17pm, you will be able to watch the conception and development of an advertising campaign, or see how to design a garden or a flowered balcony with the teachers of the School of Art & Message, up to the most glamorous of fashion accessories, a bag, with the Center in via Alex Visconti, while violin making teachers will show how to build a stringed instrument, revealing the secrets of the ancient Italian artisan tradition. 

The Castello Superior School of Applied Arts will be present with practical mosaic demonstrations. Finally, throughout the day, it will be possible to have your CV reviewed or take a test to assess your knowledge of the English language.

During the last school year 2018/19, 10.258 were enrolled in the Municipality's training and work courses, 6.479 females and 3.779 males, of which 72% were Italian and 28% foreign. Among the course attendees, it is highlighted that 27% are young people between 18 and 29 years old and 28% are people between 30 and 40 years old. A sign that the courses represent an opportunity for Milanese people looking for new opportunities to expand their work knowledge. 20% of students are between 41 and 50 years old; 16% are between 51 and 60 years old, 9% are over 60. 

In the singular ranking of the courses most appreciated by the Milanese, we find, in first place, the language courses, with 589 modules in English, French, German, Spanish, Portuguese, but also Italian for foreigners, Russian, Turkish, Arabic, Chinese and the much sought-after Japanese . In second place is the passion for art and craftsmanship with 45 modules, followed by the web with 24 IT courses. Professions in the optics area are also in great demand with 19 modules. There is also space for the world of fashion: 8 modules between fashion and tailoring. This is followed by communication, advertising and publishing with 7 modules, while the tertiary sector and business services consist of 3 modules. The green design with 2 modules closes the ranking. 

The 8% increase in 'fragile' people (2.407, there were 2.228 in 2017/2018) who turned to the help desks to look for work and professional retraining offered by the municipal centers in via Fleming and San Giusto is significant. 1.258 service agreements were provided and 1.541 citizens were trained. These subjects had the possibility of targeted actions: interviews, orientation, training meetings to improve their preparation for the job market. Among the most popular are the courses for restaurant workers, electricians, landscaping workers, ceramists and furniture restorers. In this area, internships also increased from 328 to 369 with an increase of 12%. Internship hires were 217 compared to 182 in the last training year. Direct hiring 98. 

To inform citizens and those interested in the courses, a billboard and web campaign is also active and is currently present in the city, created by students of the Art and Message school of the Municipality of Milan. Eight subjects relating to the areas of the professional courses proposed. The visual was conceived to draw attention to the inseparable relationship between training and manual skills and to underline the importance of manufacturing and craftsmanship as sectors rich in opportunities for professional growth.
