Work. A webinar and a conference to spread a new culture of work and safety

Tajani: "Tomorrow, on the occasion of Worker's memorial day, a day of discussion open to Administration workers and citizens"

Milan, 27 April 2021 – Milan is increasingly attentive to the health of its workers and to promoting a correct culture of prevention. There were two moments of reflection and discussion created this year by the Administration, on the occasion of the world day for safety and health in the workplace, the "Worker's memorial day", scheduled for tomorrow, Wednesday 28 April. A webinar entitled "Together for a healthy and long-lived life" dedicated to the importance of correct nutrition and the correlations between food and well-being as well as the implementation of correct lifestyles is available to the staff of the Municipality and that of its subsidiary companies . Added to this is the online conference "Work that changes in the time of Covid-19" which will delve into the transformation paths that occurred following the pandemic.

"This year, given the particular situation dictated by the pandemic emergency, we thought we would propose to the city and all our staff two opportunities for discussion and debate useful for promoting a new culture of prevention, convinced that safety is not expressed only by 'adequacy of environments and workplaces but also by the promotion and implementation of behaviors and lifestyles that protect the overall health of the worker by promoting his psychophysical well-being in harmony with current economic and cultural changes". Thus comments the Councilor for Labor Policies, Productive Activities and Human Resources of the Municipality of Milan, Cristina Tajani, who continues: "Through these two initiatives we want to support our resources with a gesture of attention towards themselves and those close to them, remembering that people's psychophysical well-being is a precious asset to be preserved in daily life and work activities".

The webinar "Together for a healthy and long-lived life", promoted by the Municipality of Milan in collaboration with AFOL metropolitan, ATM SpA, A2a, Gruppo CAP, Milanosport SpA, MM SpA, SEA Milan airports and SOGEMI SpA, is aimed at a general audience of over 42.000 employees (15 thousand municipal and 27 thousand from investee companies) and will see the participation of prof. Valter Longo, Director of the Oncology and Longevity Program of the IFOM (Firc Institute of Molecular Oncology) in Milan and Director of the Longevity Institute of the USC (University of Southern California) Davis School of Gerontology in Los Angeles who will address the topic of the relationship between nutrition and health as well as the importance of implementing correct and healthy lifestyles by employees, especially in this historical moment in which the hours of often sedentary work have intensified and the possibilities for movement for workers are rare. The webinar will offer a precious moment of training and in-depth analysis on some key themes for well-being in the company: from the five pillars of the "Longevity Diet", a powerful tool to prevent and slow down the onset of pathologies related to the advancement of age or non-transmissible, up to the habits to avoid to achieve a healthy and long-lived life every day.

The meeting-debate "Work that changes in the time of Covid-19" was born, however, from the desire of the Administration, in line with the Memorandum of Understanding signed with the Prefecture of Milan in 2020, to pay increasing attention to safety in the workplace also in light of the numerous events that have hit the headlines as in the case of the healthcare personnel who died from Covid and Raffaele Ielpo, the MM4 employee who died in the workplace accident on the construction site in Piazza Tirana. The debate will see the participation of the Prefect of Milan, Raffaele Saccone, as well as representatives of the main Milanese institutions: Metropolitan City, ATS and INAIL as well as delegates from CGIL, CISL and UIL who will discuss the paths taken to protect the health of workers following of the pandemic. We will start with the presentation of the new protections provided by INAIL for workers, continuing with the examination of the strengths and critical points of the controls in the application of the Covid protocols with particular attention to the role of the competent doctor. There will also be space for direct testimonies from the different souls of the city's economic fabric thanks to the contribution of the women's group of CGIL - CISL - UIL who will talk about remote working, representatives of "La casa degli RLS" (workers' representatives for safety) will illustrate the different activities of support carried out in the area in the last year, while the commitment of the companies will be described by a representative of the SMEs. There will also be a discussion between the employers' associations, Assolombarda and API, which, starting from a brief analysis of the past year, will give their point of view on the actions to be taken in the future and on those conducted during the current pandemic. Finally, during the morning, the framework protocol on workplace safety on M4 construction sites will be presented by the president of M4 Fabio Terragni and the president of the MM4 builders consortium, Guido Mannella. A document aimed at protecting workers involved in the construction sites of the new city infrastructure.
