Work. Tajani: "invest in new services for tourists and citizens to support the future of newsstands"

Milan, January 29 2020 - “The Administration knows the serious situation faced by most of the newsstands in Milan. In recent years we have seen around 30% of those present in the city disappear, due to the serious crisis underway in the printed paper sector. We are convinced that these realities, so widespread, constitute an indispensable safeguard of sociality and culture for Milan and its neighborhoods, as well as a guarantee of pluralism in information."

Thus the councilor for Labor Policies, Productive Activities and Commerce Cristina Tajani comments on "Newsstand Night", the initiative to raise awareness of the future of newsstands organized by the National Union of Newsagents of Italy scheduled for Wednesday 29 January in Milan in Piazzale Lagosta and simultaneously in many other cities in the country.

“For this reason – continues Tajani – we are working with trade associations to support the renovation of newsstands based on the changing habits of citizens. Trying to transform these realities into a network of city info-points. New spaces where residents and tourists can easily find, in addition to newspapers and magazines, all the information to experience the city or access the online services offered by the Administration such as registry certificates or other documents for which it is not necessary to personally go to the municipal offices . We have also supported - concludes Tajani - the birth of neighborhood concierge projects in some of these areas and we are still available to support, together with associations and operators, changes to the regional law which regulates the products that can be sold on newsstands, together with newspapers and magazines. We will once again listen to the voice of newsstands who this evening, throughout Italy, will seek support from citizens and institutions to be able to move forward, perhaps by renewing themselves. The Municipality is present on this path and will be present in the future."
