Work. Tajani: “The Municipality is carefully following the situation of workers in the cleaning sector”

Milan, 22 December 2020 – “I want to express, as a citizen and representative of the Milanese Administration, my closeness and attention to the situation of workers active in the multi-service and cleaning sector who, today more than ever, are engaged in combating the Covid emergency with their daily, silent and indispensable performances".

Thus the Councilor for Labor Policies, Productive Activities and Commerce Cristina Tajani comments on the meeting that took place this morning between the technicians of the Department and the workers' representatives, in front of Palazzo Marino, to request the renewal of the national contract for the multiservice sector.

“There are over six thousand employees in the metropolitan city of Milan, mostly women, with families to support. Their contract, already very ungenerous - concludes councilor Tajani - has been waiting to be renewed for almost 8 years. It is not just an economic issue - however fundamental - but of safety, of the workers and of all of us who go to hospitals, offices and schools every day. The contractual conditions must be adapted to the passing of the years and above all to the changed economic and social scenario that the country is facing. As a Department we will act as advocates for the representatives of the business associations in the sector so that speculation on the cost of labor is not perpetuated and the rights and wages of those who are involved in ensuring clean and sanitized workplaces are protected every day".
