Tajani: "Two useful works to guide the Administration's actions regarding the fight against food waste and attention to the new emerging needs of the elderly population"  
 
Milan, March 18 2021 - Milan pays homage to the memory of Professor Marco Biagi, 19 years after his violent death. The winners of the Marco Biagi 2020 award, the scholarship established by the Municipality of Milan to honor the memory and work of the labor law expert murdered in 2002, were announced today by the councilor for employment policies Cristina Tajani. Derito Martina prize with the thesis “Amunì – Flowers are born from the market” and Arcieri Marianna and Bargna Riccardo for the joint thesis “Diffuse living. A sustainable model for the elderly".

“In recent years we have wanted to keep the work and memory of Professor Marco Biagi alive. The works presented by these three young researchers represent valuable contributions on topics such as the fight against food waste and the new needs of elderly people, useful for directing the Administration's action. Issues - explains councilor Tajani - which in this period are more relevant than ever and must be addressed with a constructive spirit, open to dialogue and discussion in the name of the work indicated to us by Professor Marco Biagi. The work of these brilliant young people - concludes the councilor - demonstrates that we have all the ability and energy to face with a proactive spirit the challenges that the Municipality and the entire country are facing in this moment of post-pandemic restart".

The Marco Biagi award established in 2015 by the Municipality of Milan is aimed at students, researchers, Italians and foreigners under 35, who in the last two years have addressed, through degree or doctoral theses, articles, monographs and essays, the delicate topic of I work with a focus on particular areas such as social and peripheral innovation, work and new migratory phenomena. Studies that can be useful to the Administration to identify appropriate policies to understand the social and economic changes present in the area.

The winners were identified from a shortlist of 44 candidates who responded to the call. The most deserving works are designated by a special judging commission made up of internal and external members of the Administration. In addition to the awards, the winners will also be given two checks worth 3 thousand euros.
 
REASONS

Dr. Derito Martina – Master's degree in Systemic Design obtained at the Polytechnic of Turin with the thesis entitled "Amunì - Flowers are born from the market" with the following motivation:  
“The work focused and developed on a topic of particular interest in this specific historical moment, an interest which is of a general nature but at the same time specific for local administrations that believe they need to address the problems placed at the center of the thesis. The debate on food waste which can become an economic resource for the benefit of the community and the environment is certainly of great relevance for institutions and increasingly aware citizens. The work presents a solid methodology in its execution, which highlights an in-depth analysis work both from a theoretical point of view and an examination of best practices, managing, at the same time, to propose practical-operational solutions for the implementation and development of these projects which appear significantly useful for a local administration".
  
Dr. Arcieri Marianna e Dr. Bargna Riccardo – Master's Degree in Architecture – Polytechnic of Milan – School of Architecture Urban Planning Construction Engineering with the joint degree thesis entitled “Diffuse Living. A sustainable model for the elderly" with the following motivation:  

“The work focused on a theme of extreme interest in this particular historical phase, an interest which is of a general nature but which is also specific to local administrations which find themselves having to face the problems placed at the center of the thesis, the management and satisfaction of the needs of elderly people who are still self-sufficient. The thesis presents a solid methodology in carrying out, carries out in-depth theoretical analysis work and examines existing best practices, offering operational solutions, an innovative housing model, for the implementation and development of these projects which appear significantly useful for an administration local".
