Road works. Via Imbriani, from Saturday 20 June resurfacing of the asphalting and tramway infrastructure

Two million euros for the extraordinary renovation of the damaged road surface. Changing tracks and implementing radio frequency drive systems

Milan, June 19 2020 - The works for the complete renewal of the road surface of via Imbriani and of the tramway infrastructure in the section between piazzale Bausan and via Ugoni/Scalvini will begin on Saturday 20 June and will continue until 5 September.
The Municipality of Milan has foreseen a cost of two million euros for the intervention.

The construction site will make it possible to redo all the road layers seriously damaged due to the presence of the tracks and intense traffic and to give safety to the tram; includes all the civil works necessary for the modification and rearrangement of the road layout.

The intervention will also make it possible to redo the diversion equipment, such as switches and branches: the implementation of the radio frequency drive systems is part of the extraordinary renewal plan of the armament systems undertaken by the Administration with Atm, the transport company Milanese public, for the continuous improvement of the safety and comfort of public rail transport.
The replacement of 400 meters of tracks and the entire tram crossing is planned. The ballast, i.e. the stone on which the tracks rest, will also be removed and a concrete base will be built.

"Roads with tram lines require, to remain fully efficient, a total renovation of the surface beneath the asphalt and of the tracks - declares Marco Granelli, councilor for Mobility and Public Works -. The intervention in via Imbriani goes in this direction and it follows what has already been done in Piazza Cinque Giornate and Corso di Porta Vittoria. On this occasion we are taking care of modernizing some equipment, which will allow the tram to travel the route with less noise and vibrations and in greater safety, and for the road to be more resistant to damage damage caused by vibrations and contact between the tracks and the asphalt. These are interventions that require the diversion of public transport lines and therefore must be placed within a long-term plan."

To allow the execution of the works, ATM has planned the diversion of lines 2 and 92 starting from Saturday and until the end of the works. As regards the trams of line 2, they operate regularly between the Negrelli terminus and via Farini/Stelvio; then they continue to the temporary terminus of Maciachini M3, making the stops along the route. Between via Farini/Stelvio and piazza Bausan it will be possible to use trolleybus 92 as an alternative.
Line 92 is strengthened with additional cars and in the direction of Bovisa FN, it deviates from via degli Imbriani to via Baldinucci passing through via Ugoni and via Maffucci. The temporary stop, in the direction of Bovisa FN, is located in via Baldinucci 102, before piazza Bausan. The stop at via degli Imbriani 54, before piazza Bausan, has been cancelled.
