Milan, September 23 2021 – Having completed the first part of the "Let's connect via Gola" project, today the street with redeveloped sidewalks is returned to citizens, thanks to an initiative that was born as part of the 2017-2018 participatory budget with the aim of integrating the street into the urban fabric of the canals.

The works began last March and the construction site which ends today includes the road section between via Pichi and via Segantini with road interventions to arrange the gneiss stone sidewalks, road safety interventions with raised pedestrian crossings and widening of the sidewalks with the provision of spaces for the planting of trees and greenery, the redevelopment of an area between via Gola, Segantini and Magolfa for the creation of a rest area with 38 parking spaces, two of which are reserved for people with disabilities.

At the central point of the road, in correspondence with the nursery school, a new raised pedestrian crossing has been placed and the pavements have been widened, so as to create a space with better accessibility to the school for families and children. The intersection between via Gola and via Segantini has also been redeveloped, with raised pedestrian crossings, allowing the speed of cars to be limited and a better and safer crossing, promoting the connection between the neighborhood and the Segantini Park: via Gola will thus become the connection between the Naviglio, the Segantini park and Romolo M2, a safe and pleasant cycle/pedestrian path to experience the city.

However, the Municipality's project concerns the entire Via Gola and in the coming months the redevelopment will continue in the next stretch, from Via Pichi to the Alzaia del Naviglio. The project, carried out by an operator to deduct costs for building interventions, involves the redevelopment of the road with stone instead of asphalt, interventions regarding greenery, urban decoration and lighting. Specifically, green flowerbeds are planned along the street with trees, aromatic plants and bushes, benches, exhibition panels, bicycle racks, lighting and an irrigation system in the flowerbeds along the street. At the conclusion of the works, Via Gola will be completely redeveloped and removed from the degradation that has made it sadly famous, integrating it into the urban fabric of the canals to make it more welcoming and livable, with attention also paid to the nearby shared space of the former Fornace.

The project on via Gola was among the most voted in the city in the participatory budget, with 1.448 votes (eighth place in the general ranking) and was the second most appreciated among those of Municipality 6. For its implementation the Municipality invested 500.000 euros, part of which comes from the participatory budget and the remainder from the neighborhood plan, a new step in the urban regeneration process of the entire city.
