Public Works. Covid-19, support measures for businesses on suspended construction sites

Milan, 4 April 2020 - In support of companies that were carrying out public works in the Milan area, suspended according to the measures adopted at national and regional level to contain the spread of the ongoing pandemic, the Administration has decided to allow immediate payment for the works actually carried out at moment of arrest.

This measure is exceptional in nature and modifies the current specifications; in fact, upon request of the company, it will be possible to make the payment of any amount due even before the expiry of forty-five days from the suspension of the works.

To contain the spread of Covid-19, some measures have been issued by the Government and Region - the Prime Ministerial Decree of 22 March 2020 and subsequent amendments and ordinance no. 514 of 21 March 2020 of the President of the Lombardy Region and subsequent additions - which ordered the interruption of all construction sites with the exception of those relating to the construction and maintenance of healthcare and civil protection structures, the maintenance of the road, motorway and railway networks , local public transport, as well as those relating to the creation, maintenance and operation of other essential services or for reasons of urgency or safety. For this reason, in Milan too, it was necessary to stop over two hundred public construction sites concerning the implementation of redevelopment projects, renovation of buildings instrumental to municipal services, historical-artistic buildings, libraries, schools, public residential buildings, as well as interventions relating to infrastructure road and transport systems, furniture and public green areas.

"We want to help the companies that were operating in Milan - declares Marco Granelli, councilor for public works - so that they in turn can proceed with the payment of workers and suppliers. Our hope is that the resumption of public works will take place as soon as possible but until from now on it is important to support businesses and their operations, work and above all families in a moment of serious difficulty. With the new measures of these days and the hoped-for availability on the market of masks and other safety and prevention devices, we count on in the coming weeks, some work will be able to resume in safe conditions designed to prevent contagion."
