The city councilors Elena Buscemi and Angelo Turco also took part in the ceremony, signatories of an agenda in which they asked to remember one of the most important figures in Italian history and the first woman in republican history to be elected President of the Chamber, a role she held for almost thirteen years having been elected three consecutive times.

The naming of the garden takes place precisely in conjunction with the anniversary of his election, 20 June 1979. On that occasion, during his speech he uttered words which, in the wake of an extraordinary civil and political journey, also testify to the profound commitment by Nilde Iotti for female emancipation: "...you will understand my emotion at being the first woman in the history of Italy to hold one of the highest positions in the State. I myself - I won't hide it from you - am experiencing this moment almost emblematically , sensing a profound meaning in it, which goes beyond myself and affects millions of women who, through tiring, patient and tenacious struggles, have opened the way towards their emancipation. Having been one of them and having spent so much of my commitment I work for their redemption, for the affirmation of their equal social and human responsibility, constitutes and will always constitute a source of pride in my life".
