Milan, 14 April 2022 – Offer Ukrainian families fleeing the war a telephone listening and orientation service in the Ukrainian language integrated with the services of the Municipality of Milan and local networks. This is the objective of the collaboration between the Administration and Andrij Shevchenko for the "Together for Ukraine" project which was presented today at Palazzo Marino in the presence of the Mayor of Milan Giuseppe Sala.

The former AC Milan champion will finance the activation of an infoline - 020205 - which will direct Ukrainian families arriving in the city and those who offer them hospitality towards the services that are active in the city, with specific attention to those dedicated to children and the boys.

"I am strongly linked to the city of Milan – declared Andrij Shevchenko – and I am really happy to see how Milan has opened its heart to Ukraine, immediately implementing solidarity and welcoming actions. I thank the mayor Giuseppe Sala for believing in this project and the offices of the Municipality of Milan for having made my desire to do something concrete for my people here possible. And I am grateful to the Milan Foundation which once again was able to make its contribution, looking above all to the future of the boys and girls".

In particular, the switchboard will be active starting from the end of April, from Monday to Friday from 9am to 18pm, to support refugees in registering for childcare and school services, to provide information on the management of DaD from Italy, but also to provide guidance on the procedures for requesting and obtaining a residence permit. Furthermore, if necessary, it will be possible to carry out face-to-face interviews by appointment.

The hope is that the infoline can also be useful for intercepting families and unaccompanied minors who have arrived in the city informally and not reported to the competent authorities, in order to direct them towards the services and opportunities offered by the Milan system. Fondazione di Comunità Milano will manage the donation and identify the switchboard manager.

"The Municipality of Milan – explained the Mayor of Milan Giuseppe Sala – moved immediately to organize the emergency reception of the Ukrainian refugees who arrived in the city after the Russian occupation, but we are aware, also given the continuation of the war, that it is not enough to offer accommodation: it is necessary to work to encourage the integration of those who intend to stay. The city has faced several crises and has a long tradition of collaboration on this front which sees institutions, private social sectors and many and many citizens eager to do their part. Together for Ukraine and - above all - with Ukraine thanks to the generosity of a champion like Andrij Shevchenko".

Among the objectives of the project is also that of mapping the needs and priorities to subsequently organise, for example on the occasion of school resumption in September, adequate activities and responses that are as close as possible to the needs of children and young people and their families.

Precisely for this reason, Shevchenko's contribution will continue and strengthen, integrating within the municipal system of initiatives for the Ukraine emergency, in light of what will emerge during the listening activities.

"Welcoming the refugees from Ukraine with our hearts – declares Carlo Marchetti, President of the Community Foundation of Milan City, south-west, south-east, Martesana –. The Milanese are doing it, as demonstrated by the contribution of over 350 donors to the fund # MilanoAiutaUkraine, born on the initiative of the Municipality at the beginning of March. Now we are asked to transform the donated resources, not into subsidies, but into concrete projects to encourage the inclusion of refugees in our community and make the fruits of the collective effort sprout. Ukrainian families fleeing the war, a telephone listening and orientation service in the Ukrainian language goes in this direction because it directs and accompanies paths of social and work integration. With his commitment, Andriy Shevchenko encourages citizens and businesses to make their contribution to the fund # MilanoAiutaUkraine through the Foundation website".
