Innovation. Milan tests the solutions financed by the “Synchronicity” project

Testing of the winning applications of the European project dedicated to the Internet of Things is underway

Milan, July 18 2019 – Milan is among the eight partner cities of the Synchronicity project which financed the testing of innovative solutions enabled by the Internet of Things and Artificial Intelligence. The project is based on minimal data standardization and interoperability mechanisms that allow digital services to be shared, lowering costs and contributing to improving the quality of life of citizens with a view to collaboration and reuse.

Starting from March until the end of the year, Milan, together with the other European cities chosen for the tests, will experiment with four solutions that address the challenges of social inclusion, energy saving and sustainable mobility. They range from the chatbot, a virtual assistant that directs the citizen via their smartphone to the Municipality's online services, from requesting an appointment for the identity card, to online payment of the Tari and fines, but also to booking the seat queuing at a distance to avoid queuing at the Registry Office counters. We move on to the topic of energy saving with the sensor capable of detecting the consumption of each individual electrical appliance in an entire building, applied to the municipal accounting office building in Piazza della Scala. A crowdmapping system is also being tested which will provide information on the accessibility of urban routes and public transport stops for people with motor disabilities. Finally, a bicycle route locator is being tested to understand cyclists' desire lines and improve infrastructure, tested on BikeMi bikes.

The tests financed by the Synchroncity project brought together various subjects internal but also external to the Municipality such as AMAT, Ledha Milano, ATM, Clear Channel, allowing them to enhance their data, collect new ones and evaluate possible innovative ways to face the challenges of the smart city in perspective of collaboration between different European cities.
