Milan, July 25 2021 - From tomorrow, Monday 26 July, until September, via Giambellino will be affected by the adaptation and renewal works of the electricity network by Unareti.
The works will allow the completion of the medium voltage electrical network exiting the primary substation of San Cristoforo which will run along via Giambellino. The electricity line is necessary to power the neighborhood and allow the strengthening of the district heating and the electric charging station of the Giambellino ATM depot which, with the fleet of electric buses, starting from the current 130 vehicles already in service to replace the vehicles powered by diesel, will make it possible to eliminate a first depot of diesel vehicles and improve the air quality in the neighborhood. 
The new electricity network will also power the M4 station in Piazza Frattini.

“This construction site serves to strengthen and renew the electricity network in this area but also some important services for the benefit of the city, such as the transformation of all ATM buses into electric - declares Marco Granelli councilor for Mobility and Public Works -. We organized the construction sites to contain citizens' discomfort. I want to remind you that the Giambellino-Lorenteggio quadrilateral is the subject of a complete redevelopment for a more beautiful, greener neighborhood, with more quality spaces for citizens, a new library, a subway and a cycle route for a better connection with the whole city . Together with Ronchetto and S. Cristoforo this new area will be the new south-west gateway to Milan".

The construction sites for the reconstruction of the underground services are part of the redevelopment project of the Giambellino-Lorenteggio area or of the quadrilateral between via Lorenteggio, largo Gelsomini, via Giambellino and piazza Tirana envisaged by the Municipality with the Neighborhood Plan and the Lorenteggio Program Agreement, which sees the Municipality with the Lombardy Region and Aler collaborating to regenerate the neighborhood from an urban and social point of view and which also includes the superficial arrangement of the area currently the subject of the construction site for the M4 Segneri station. Among the works under construction or completed: more greenery and new public and cultural spaces available to citizens, better connections with the rest of the city and between neighbourhoods, connection with the entire urban cycle network and new routes, more space for pedestrians and new sidewalks and paving.

After the night work of the past months, from the end of July to the end of August,
the most invasive road excavations necessary to underpass the two canals that cross via Giambellino will be carried out; for this reason the street will be closed to traffic in the stretch between numbers 155 and 127 towards the center. In the last few days, work will continue to thread the cables into the pipes but only at night, to contain the inconvenience. Finally, by September the roadway will be completely resurfaced, to return the road to the neighborhood.

Vehicular transit for residents, pedestrian and vehicular access to private properties, transit and access to tertiary activities and emergency vehicles will always be guaranteed.
