Guarantor of greenery, soil and trees. Clarifications on compensations and native spontaneous vegetation. In-depth analysis and support for entities on the PNRR call

Milan, 30 March 2023 – The Guarantor of greenery, soil and trees, since his installation immediately after the appointment by the Municipality of Milan in December 2022, constantly carries out the tasks and functions established by the Regulation, participating in the technical tables promoted by the municipal administration, welcoming the requests received and acting as an intermediary for a fruitful and continuous exchange between citizens and institutions.

Following the numerous reports received on specific topics, the Guarantor wishes to clarify the following.

Regarding the issue of compensations that must be provided after interventions - authorized and strictly necessary - of tree felling, it is certainly preferable that the plantings are carried out in close proximity to the places subject to tree removal: the primary purpose of the compensations, in fact, is to have ecosystem benefits that balance the minus produced by culling.

In response to some citizens and operators who asked for clarification on spontaneous plant formations with native species, the Guarantor underlines that they must be preserved as much as possible, as they enrich areas of biodiversity and increase ecosystem services.

Finally, following the press articles on the PNRR funds intended for forestation of metropolitan cities, the Guarantor will delve into the technical aspects of the problem and provide maximum support to the competent bodies so that, through a renewed census of the areas and a fruitful dialogue with the Ministry of environment and energy security, a participation window can once again be opened to access the tender.
