Magistrate, former president of the Supervisory Court of Bologna, will remain in office for three years. Tomorrow in the Alessi Room the presentation of the activities of the outgoing Guarantor 

Milan, June 4 2019 - Francesco Maisto is the new Guarantor of the rights of people deprived of personal liberty of the Municipality of Milan. 
Mayor Giuseppe Sala appointed him at the end of a public selection process dedicated to profiles of undisputed prestige and clear fame in the field of legal sciences, human rights or social activities.

Graduated in Law, already in service with the rank of Magistrate of Cassation with the functions of president of the Surveillance Court of Bologna, qualified to teach Law and Political Economy and specialized in Clinical Criminology, Francesco Maisto will hold the position of Guarantor of prisoners for three years.
The Guarantor, according to the provisions of the Regulation established by resolution of the City Council no. 40/2012 of 5 October 2012, will promote the exercise of the rights and opportunities for participation in civil life and use of municipal services by people deprived of personal liberty, and will also promote initiatives and moments of public awareness on the topic of rights human rights of people deprived of personal freedom and the humanization of prison sentences and joint initiatives with other public entities and in particular with the Department of Social Policies and the Prison Subcommittee; with respect to possible reports that come to its attention, even informally, and concern violations of rights, guarantees and prerogatives of persons deprived of personal liberty, the Guarantor turns to the competent authorities for any further information, reports the failure or inadequate compliance of these rights and conducts a work of assiduous information and constant communication to the authorities themselves regarding the conditions of the places of confinement. It also promotes with the Penal Institutions, the Bodies and the Milanese Offices of the Department of Penitentiary Administration and the Department for Juvenile Justice and with all the other public administrations involved the memoranda of understanding useful to be able to carry out its functions also through visits to places of detention; finally, it promotes forms of collaboration with universities as well as with the world of voluntary work, associations and the Milanese private social sector which operates in the penal and penitentiary fields or which in various capacities deals with people deprived of personal freedom.

Tomorrow, Wednesday 5 June, from 9am to 13.30pm, in Sala Alessi a Palazzo Marino the conference "Vagli to explain that it is spring" will be held to present the activities carried out by the outgoing Guarantor Alessandra Naldi and to call the Administration and the city to a renewed commitment on issues related to criminal enforcement. The event is organized by the presidency of the Prisons, Penalties and Restrictions Subcommittee.
