The tender process is underway following interest from some private entities. Tasca: “We try to recover abandoned spaces. The costs of the restoration work will be borne by the dealers"

Milan, February 12 2021 – The Council has approved the guidelines for a public notice for the concession of some currently disused real estate units and for the redevelopment of spaces in the Galleria Vittorio Emanuele II.
A path linked to the valorisation of the real estate heritage started after the collection, by the Administration, of some expressions of interest for spaces in the monumental complex, providing for their restoration and return to public use.

“We intend to proceed along the path of economic valorization of the Gallery and we have identified some units that have been empty for some time and to be brought back to use for the complete relaunch of the real estate complex – states the councilor for State Property, Roberto Tasca –. After a difficult year for all commercial and entrepreneurial activities, we intend to start again with the tenders, which will be numerous and in which we have important signs of an interest that signals a recovery".

Among the places which, following the future tender, could reopen to the public through private management, there is the historic Sala dell'Orologio, located above the entrance to the Galleria Vittorio Emanuele II which overlooks Piazza Duomo: a space of 1.860 m1932 divided between the panoramic terrace and the main room, already the subject of conservative restoration with its original Venetian-style floors and the central control unit for public clocks dated XNUMX.
The tender for its concession will include further restoration works with the creation of an external lift to be paid by the future tenant, as well as a starting rent of 490 thousand euros per year. The Municipality will be able to use the room for conference and representation purposes 50 days a year.

Another space to be recovered is the Cobianchi, the former day hotel of over a thousand square metres. The proposal formulated to the Municipality involves the implementation of extensive building and plant redevelopment works, in addition to those necessary for the recovery and conservation of the historic furnishings present in the spaces, for an amount estimated at 1,8 million euros. The annual fee is estimated at 200 thousand euros.

There is also news for the Feltrinelli bookshops, which can be accessed from the Octagon of the Gallery and from Piazza Duomo, which will hand over a portion of their current volume to the Municipality. For 149 m100 of that space, the Savini restaurant expressed interest in transforming it into a cabaret theatre. While another XNUMX mXNUMX will be available to the Municipality for the creation of a civic meeting point, as the old "Urban Center" was in the past.
