Maran: "Immediately a law to limit short-term rentals" - Program

Milan, March 20 2023 – The Living Forum organized by the Municipality of Milan in collaboration with MM SpA and with the support of the Cariplo Foundation opened this morning. The event takes place at Base Milano and includes three days of debates, panels and workshops on living issues.

During the opening moment of the Forum, which was attended by the Mayor of Milan Giuseppe Sala, the Prefect of Milan Renato Saccone, the Episcopal Vicar of the Archdiocese of Milan Luca Bressan, the President of the City Council of Milan Elena Buscemi, the Housing councilor Pierfrancesco Maran presented "A new strategy for the home", the three-year document that will have to be approved over the next few weeks by the city council.

"I want to thank the many people who contributed to the creation of this document which would not have seen the light without the great commitment made by the Housing Department and the Housing Directorate of the Municipality of Milan, of AMAT, of the Milano Abitare agency, of the PIM Study Center and the departments of Urban Regeneration and Welfare and Health – declared Maran.

Among the many topics touched upon by the councilor during his introductory speech at the Living Forum, a request to the Government to intervene in a timely manner with a regulation of short-term rentals whose continuous growth is causing ever greater difficulties for those looking for an apartment in long-term rental in Milan.

"All the big European cities like Milan are working to introduce limitations on short-term rentals. We need – concludes Maran – an intervention from the Executive which on the one hand brings order to this market without penalizing small owners but which regulates a situation currently without rules and, on the other, introduces strong tax deductions for those who live in rent in Milan".
