Food policy. Nine hubs for nine neighbourhoods: collaboration proposals by 10 October

Milan, October 2 2019 – Municipality of Milan, Assolombarda, Polytechnic of Milan, QuBì Program - The recipe against child poverty and the Cariplo Foundation are looking for subjects willing to collaborate for the creation of new neighborhood hubs to extend the collection and donation of food to all the municipalities of Milan. The first deadline for the public notice for sending proposals is October 10th at 12pm.

“We want to replicate and strengthen the model already developed in Municipality 9 with the Lombardy Food Bank – comments the deputy mayor with responsibility for Food policy Anna Scavuzzo –, thanks to which we estimate that we will be able to recover around 60 tonnes of food per year, equivalent to around 220 thousand meals, with a reduction of around 230 tonnes of CO per year2 and over 90 million cubic meters of water saved."

Thanks to the neighborhood hubs, surplus food is collected by supermarkets and company canteens, stored and made available for redistribution to local associations: fresh, cooked, dry, fruit, vegetables, bread, all types of food that allow you to donate a a varied, nutritious and balanced offer to people in difficulty.

The notice is aimed at all entities, public or private, who can provide support in one of the following ways: spaces for a minimum of 4 years with a size exceeding 80 mXNUMX; technical sponsorships such as, for example, renovations, fitting out of refrigerated cells, small infrastructures, furniture, insulated vans, cargo bikes; financial sponsorships.

The notice will remain permanently open until 30 September 2020 and the selection procedures will be divided into 3 phases: 10 October, 31 March 2020 and 30 September 2020.
