Food policy. Milan Catering at work to safely reopen the Giusti kitchen center

Milan, 25 January 2023 – Once the assessments have been completed and the resolution actions have been identified, the planning activities for the renovation begin which will allow the reopening of the Giusti kitchen center which served eight school complexes in Municipality 2024 in 1. The temporary closure of the municipal structure managed by Milano Ristorazione, which prepared around 1.600 meals every day served to the boys and girls of the primary and secondary schools in via Giusti, the primary school in via Palermo and the nursery schools in via Palermo 9 and 17, in piazza SS. Trinità and via Pier Capponi 18 and 22, was announced at the beginning of the school year.

As already communicated, the closure was necessary to resolve problems that were highlighted in the structure. In particular, a stagnation of water under the floor (in the gap between the ground and the floor called the "vespaio") had generated the proliferation of weeds, making the premises unusable and the urgency of carrying out checks and investigations aimed at identifying the necessary remedial actions.

Once the assessments were completed, the desire to intervene with renovation works for a total amount of approximately 700 thousand euros (net of possible increases due to economic contingencies) which will be carried out by Milano Ristorazione, and which will include the removal of the flooring, the demolition of the internal walls and the subsequent reconstruction of the hydraulic and electrical systems and the drainage network. In the reconstruction of the premises, improvements will be made that will make the center fully accessible and more functional for the handling of foodstuffs and cooked meals.

14 months of work are planned which will begin as soon as the executive project is ready. In the meantime, meals for boys and girls will continue to be prepared by the Colleoni kitchen centers (which serves the primary and secondary schools in via Giusti and the children's schools in via Pier Capponi 18 and 22) and Sammartini (which serves the primary school in via Palermo and the childhoods of via Palermo 9 and 17 and of piazza SS. Trinità).
