Food Policy. Comune, Le Soste and Sogemi together for the valorization of freshness and excellence in Italian cuisine

Milan, June 30 2020 – It was held on Tuesday 30 June Palazzo Marino, in the Sala dell'Orologio, the first meeting between the Municipality of Milan, the Le Soste Association and Sogemi to launch the plan of initiatives linked to the valorisation of fresh food in excellent restaurants.

The initiative is part of the memorandum of understanding, signed in December 2019 and included in the framework of the actions of the Milan Food Policy, and includes 5 events that will be held in the coming months, on various topics related to fresh food with the objective on the one hand to enhance the food places of Milan, such as the Earth Market, the Agri-Food Market, the Botanical Museum of Villa Lonati and Milano Ristorazione, and on the other to raise awareness of the products through the experience of some chefs of Italian food and wine excellence .

To welcome participants to Palazzo Marino the Deputy Mayor with responsibility for Food Policy Anna Scavuzzo, who introduced the initiatives linked to the Memorandum of Understanding as a "fundamental tool to resume the commitment and determination with which Milan has been able to enhance sustainable food choices, promoting a culture of fresh food and healthy, capable of combining tradition and innovation".

Following this, Cesare Ferrero, Sogemi president, added that "in Italy we have a culinary culture and a heritage of fresh food products to be safeguarded and promoted also in the new generations. Through this agreement, Foody-Mercato Agroalimentare Milano undertakes to collaborate together with Le Soste and the Municipality of Milan to achieve these objectives".

During the initiative Claudio Sadler, President of the Le Soste Association, reiterated the importance of collaborating to create a direct channel between suppliers of raw materials and restaurants, with the aim of making the Italian agri-food heritage more accessible and thus enhancing it , and gave the Deputy Mayor the volume “Le Soste 2020” and a figurine with the symbol of the Association, created by Emilio Tadini.

Among the interventions also those of the editor of Le Soste, Mario Cucci, the chef Carlo Cracco and the chef Viviana Varese. The meeting was also an opportunity to present the national award, established to give continuity and promote the Memorandum of Understanding, which will be awarded to a personality who has particularly distinguished himself in the context of valorising fresh produce.
